Don't Let Winter Be Your Excuse!

I know a lot of people do not enjoy the cold weather of winter. I myself am one of those people. With that being said I make sure to not let winter weather stop me from being active and healthy on a daily basis if I can. There are still many things you can do outside as it gets closer to winter, you just need to bundle up and dress appropriately. A great activity to do outside during the winter time is skiing or snowboarding. Both of these physical activities are great ways to be active and build up a sweat. A lot of people do not realize how exhausting skiing and snowboarding can be, but they are truly full body workouts. After a day of doing either of those activities you will be feeling it for sure. Another activity you can do outside during winter is go hiking. The snow actually makes hiking more challenging and makes you burn more calories as you hike. A normal hike may only be a moderate physical activity, but a hike in the snow can become a vigorous activity for sure. What are some things you like to do outside in the winter?

Swimming Can Be Fun!

Before this year I have never been very into swimming. I would make excuses about why I did not have time to go swim or reasons why I shouldn't. The truth was I had never really given swimming a chance. I had to take a class called aquatics fundamentals this year where I learned different swimming strokes and ways to enjoy using a pool. I must say after learning how to correctly use different strokes swimming has become a lot more fun and I have started to use it as a form of cardio in my workouts. I never realized before this year how difficult swimming many laps at a time can be. Do any of you use swimming as a form of exercise? If you do what are some of your favorite workouts in the pool?

Thanksgiving Turkey Bowl!

A great way to get outside during the holiday and be active is to play in a friends and family turkey bowl. My friends and I have been playing in a turkey bowl since we were 9 years old and have kept the tradition alive for this long. Now that we are older and need to avoid injury we have moved to flag football instead of tackle, but it is still really fun. I do not get the chance to play organized sports as much as I used to so I enjoy the opportunity to move around and feel like an athlete again. Do you play in a turkey bowl? If you do, when and where do you play your game? If you do not maybe consider getting from friends and family together Thanksgiving morning. It is a great way to start the Holiday!

Have you ever tried yoga before?

Many people I know think that yoga is not a real workout and that it is not a good form of exercise. Most of them have never even tried yoga before and just base there opinions off of things they have heard or seen in the movies. I have tried a couple different types of yoga and have always found them to be a great way to build strength, balance, and breathing while also providing a amazing stress relief and calmness. My favorite type of yoga is hot yoga, where they heat the room up to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and let you sweat a ton while practicing holding different poses and performing difficult balances. I love the feeling afterwards because my body felt very loose and flexible.

What types of yoga have you tried before if any?
And would you ever consider trying hot yoga?
